Award Categories


The award categories are open to everyone involved in accountancy within Yorkshire, from outstanding trainees to managing partners of accountancy firms. The purpose of the awards is to celebrate the successes of those organisations, teams and individuals who have excelled within the region.

 

The following criteria should be treated as a guide by entrants when reviewing award categories, but are not intended to be exhaustive, and entrants are invited to mention any other points they feel strengthen their entry.

Company

 


Best Employer of the Year

Open to all accountancy firms across Yorkshire

  • Training initiatives and accreditations received or being worked towards—for example, Investors in People
  • Dedication to development and welfare of staff
  • Jobs created within the region
  • Recognition from staff/training providers

 


Brand of the Year

Open to any new marketing initiative launched during the previous 12 months within the region—any campaign via any media will be considered

  • Demonstrate how the campaign achieved measurable positive results
  • Show how the campaign embodies originality and ‘thinking outside of the box’
  • Describe how the ongoing progress of the campaign was monitored and maintained or modified
  • Consider both teamwork and noteworthy personal contributions to its success

 


Diversity & Inclusion Award

Open to all accountancy firms across Yorkshire

  • A commitment to diversity and inclusion, with an emphasis on developing opportunities for professional advancement
  • A significant focus on identifying and removing the accountancy profession’s barriers to entry
  • Active promotion of equality, internally and externally
  • Strong passion for celebrating diversity in all of its forms

 


Independent Firm of the Year

This award is open to accountancy firms that have either 0-50 employees based in Yorkshire or a UK income of up to £5m

  • State how many employees you have based in Yorkshire and your regional or UK income
  • Demonstrable appreciation or recognition by clients
  • Client initiatives that set the firm apart from the rest
  • Contribution to the business community
  • Recognition received from other firms

 


Mid-Tier Firm of the Year

This award is open to accountancy firms that have either 51-350 employees based in Yorkshire or a UK income of between £5m-£50m

  • State how many employees you have based in Yorkshire and your regional or UK income
  • Demonstrable appreciation or recognition by clients
  • Client initiatives that set the firm apart from the rest
  • Contribution to the business community
  • Recognition received from other firms

 


Large Firm of the Year

This award is open to accountancy firms that have either over 350 employees based in Yorkshire or a UK income of over £50m

  • State how many employees you have based in Yorkshire and your regional or UK income
  • Demonstrable appreciation or recognition by clients
  • Client initiatives that set the firm apart from the rest
  • Contribution to the business community
  • Recognition received from other firms

 


Niche Firm of the Year

This category is open to specialist accountancy practices and boutiques

  • Demonstrable appreciation or recognition by clients
  • Client initiatives that set the firm apart from the rest

Audit Service Award

Open to any accountancy firm within Yorkshire delivering audit services to clients, covering the past 12 months

Corporate Finance Service Award

In-house Finance Team of the Year

This award is open to teams who work within an organisation’s in-house finance department

  • Entrants should show how they perform essential finance work for their employer
  • They should be able to demonstrate how they add value to the business or organisation
  • Examples of a clear commitment to excellence, quality and innovation
  • Recognition and appreciation from Yorkshire accountancy and business community
  • Positively contribution to the general finance community

 


Support Staff of the Year

Open to all support staff and teams (eg, HR, IT) operating at accountancy firms within Yorkshire

  • Credit will be given for evidence of the support staff member or team’s contribution to business success
  • Demonstrably excellent standards of work
  • Dedication to the job and firm
  • Include references from senior colleagues

 


Team of the Year

Open to all teams (2 or more members) operating at accountancy firms within Yorkshire

  • Credit will be given for evidence of the team’s success
  • Evidence of their technical ability
  • Application of innovative ideas
  • Demonstrating quality of service for the client

Finance Director of the Year

Open to in-house finance directors in Yorkshire

  • Evidence of contribution to the success of their practice in the last 12 months
  • Demonstrable expertise in field of work
  • Leadership qualities and business planning
  • Dedication to clients
  • Demonstrable work to help/mentor junior staff
  • Contribution to the community

 


Managing Partner of the Year

Open to managing partners of accountancy firms/offices across Yorkshire

  • Evidence of contribution to the success of their practice in the last 12 months
  • Demonstrable leadership and strong management skills
  • Dedication to clients
  • Non-fee earning, but work related activities—such as marketing, establishing new initiatives and broader contribution to the profession
  • Contribution to the community

 


Partner of the Year

Open to partners at accountancy firms/offices across Yorkshire

  • Evidence of contribution to the success of their practice in the last 12 months’, both in fee earning and other areas, such as marketing or setting up new projects that have benefited the firm
  • Demonstrable expertise in field of work
  • Evidence of a growing reputation or maintaining their standing as a leader in their field
  • Dedication to clients
  • Demonstrable work to help/mentor junior staff
  • Contribution to the community

 


Rising Star of the Year

Open to all accountants and staff working in accountancy firms across Yorkshire

  • Maximum age at ceremony: 35 years
  • Demonstrable involvement in interesting, challenging or new cases and the capacity in which you were involved
  • Demonstrable dedication to your clients
  • Stand out from colleagues as a person who has made significant impact to the firm
  • Non-fee earning, but work related activities – such as marketing, establishing new initiatives and broader contribution to the profession
  • Contribution to the community

 


Trainee of the Year

Open to all accountants and staff in accountancy firms across Yorkshire

  • Nominee must relate to work carried out while employed by the firm and currently under a training contract
  • Demonstrably excellent standards of work
  • Dedication to the job
  • Demonstrable professional development during training
  • Demonstrable contribution to client relationships and/or business development
  • Include references from senior colleagues
  • Contribution to the community

 


Yorkshire Advisor of the Year

Open to advisors working in accountancy firms or as sole practitioners based in Yorkshire

  • Demonstrably excellent standards of work
  • Demonstrable expertise in field of work
  • Dedication to clients

Yorkshire Accountant of the Year

Open to qualified accountants working in accountancy firms or as sole practitioners based in Yorkshire

  • Demonstrably excellent standards of work
