Award Categories 2019


The award categories are open to everyone involved in accountancy within Yorkshire, whether that be as an outstanding trainee or as a managing partner for an accountancy firm. Our purpose is to celebrate the successes of those organisations, teams and individuals who have excelled within the region.

The following criteria should be treated as a guide by entrants when reviewing award categories, but are not intended to be exhaustive, and entrants are invited to mention any other points they feel strengthen their entry.

Yorkshire Accountancy Awards

Company Awards

  • Independent Firm of the Year
  • Mid-Tier Firm of the Year
  • Large Firm of the Year
  • New Firm of the Year
  • Best Employer of the Year
  • Brand of the Year
  • Diversity & Inclusion Award

    • Who’s flying the flag for Yorkshire and making a notable impact in regional, national and international markets? This award is open to firms that have either  0-50 employees based in Yorkshire or a UK income of up to £5m and will be judged according to the following criteria:
    • Demonstrable appreciation or recognition by clients
    • Client initiatives that you feel have set the firm apart from the rest
    • Contribution to the business community
    • Recognition received from other firms
    • Please remember to state how many employees you have based in Yorkshire

Please also inform us of anything else that you feel is particularly noteworthy, that is not covered in the above criteria

    • Who’s flying the flag for Yorkshire and making a notable impact in regional, national and international markets? This award is open to firms that have either  51-350 employees based in Yorkshire or a UK income of between £5 – £50m and will be judged according to the following criteria:
    • Demonstrable appreciation or recognition by clients
    • Client initiatives that you feel have set the firm apart from the rest
    • Contribution to the business community
    • Recognition received from other firms
    • Please remember to state how many employees you have based in Yorkshire

Please also inform us of anything else that you feel is particularly noteworthy, that is not covered in the above criteria

    • Who’s flying the flag for Yorkshire and making a notable impact in regional, national and international markets? This award is open to firms that have either over 350 employees based in Yorkshire or a UK Income of over £50m and will be judged according to the following criteria:
    • Demonstrable appreciation or recognition by clients
    • Client initiatives that you feel have set the firm apart from the rest
    • Contribution to the business community
    • Recognition received from other firms
    • Please remember to state how many employees you have based in Yorkshire

Please also inform us of anything else that you feel is particularly noteworthy, that is not covered in the above criteria

 

This category is open to practices no older than 48 months and will be judged according to the following criteria:

    • Demonstrable appreciation or recognition by clients
    • Client initiatives that you feel have set the firm apart from the rest
    • Contribution to the business community
    • Recognition received from other firms

Please also inform us of anything else that you feel is particularly noteworthy, that is not covered in the above criteria

    • Best Employer within Yorkshire will be judged according to the following criteria:
    • Training initiatives and accreditations received or being worked towards – For example Investors in People
    • Dedication to development and welfare of staff
    • Jobs created within the region
    • Recognition received from staff/ training providers

Open to any new marketing initiative launched during the previous 12 months within the region – any campaign via any media will be considered.

  • Demonstrate how the campaign achieved measurable positive results
  • Show how the campaign embodies originality and ‘thinking outside of the box’
  • Describe how the ongoing progress of the campaign was monitored and maintained or modified
  • Consider both teamwork and noteworthy personal contributions to its success
  • Anything else noteworthy that is not covered above

Open to all firms across Yorkshire. This award will be judged according to the following criteria:

  • A commitment to diversity and inclusion, with an emphasis on developing opportunities for professional advancement
  • A significant focus on identifying and removing the accountancy profession’s barriers to entry
  • Active promotion of equality, internally and externally
  • Strong passion for celebrating diversity in all of its forms

  • Tax Team of the Year

  • Demonstrating quality tax advise for the client
  • Testimonial may be provided

This award is only open to teams who work within an organisation’s in-house finance department and will be judged according to the following criteria:

  • Entrants should be show how they perform essential finance work for their employer
  • They should be able to demonstrate how they add value to the business or organisation
  • Examples of a clear commitment to excellence, quality and innovation
  • How has their work been recognised and appreciated by the Yorkshire accountancy and business community?
  • How have they positively contributed to the general finance community?

Open to all accountancy teams operating within Yorkshire

  • Credit will be given for evidence of the team’s success
  • Evidence of their technical ability
  • Application of innovative ideas
  • Demonstrating quality of service for the client
  • Testimonial may be provided

Individual Awards

  • Rising Star of the Year
  • Trainee of the Year

    • This award will be judged according to the following criteria:
      • Maximum age at ceremony 35 years
      • Demonstrable involvement in interesting, challenging or new cases and the capacity in which you were involved
      • Demonstrable dedication to your clients
      • Stand out from colleagues as a person who has made significant impact to the firm
      • Non-fee earning, but work related activities – such as marketing, establishing new initiatives and broader contribution to the profession
      • Contribution to the community

    • This award will be judged according to the following criteria:
      • Nominee must relate to work carried out while employed by the firm and currently under a training contract
      • Demonstrably excellent standards of work
      • Dedication to the job

      • Demonstrable contribution to client relationships and/or business development
      • Include references from senior colleagues
      • Contribution to the community

      • Evidence of contribution to the success of their practice in the last 12 months’, both in fee earning and other areas, such as marketing or setting up new projects which have benefited the firm
      • Demonstrable expertise in field of work
      • Evidence of a growing reputation or maintaining their standing as a leader in their field
      • Dedication to clients
      • Demonstrable work to help/mentor junior staff
      • Contribution to the community
